Transformative travel has evolved from travellers seeking authentic experiences, with local and cultural immersion. Now people want deeper emotional connections when they travel. According to the Transformational Travel Council, founded in 2016, transformational travel means “intentionally traveling to stretch, learn and grow into new ways of being and engaging with the world.”
Although transformative travel experiences can take the form of expensive, once-in-a-lifetime trips, there are so many opportunities to connect with yourself and others, explore the nature environment, embrace wellness, expand perspectives, nurture the imagination and become a better version of yourself – without breaking the bank.
Just like slow travel, which does necessarily mean that you have to stay in one place for a long time, transformative travel as much of a mindset as anything else. Choosing different path than normal, having a chance encounter, finding yourself alone somewhere magical: any of these could change you a little or a lot, but alter your core self for the better in some way.
