Segera is a green oasis amongst 50,000 golden acres of Kenyan savannah. Lying in the high grasslands of the Laikipia Plateau, with Mount Kenya looking on, the eco-friendly safari resort is home to lion, leopard, cheetah, elephant, buffalo, wild dog, giraffe and zebra. A 45-minute flight from Nairobi is the quickest way to the Segera, which can also be reached on a 55-minute flight from Masai Mara.
Founded by eco-guru Jochen Zeitz, Segera brings together the 4C’s of culture, community, conservation and commerce in keeping with the ethos of The Long Run. Six super-deluxe villas nestle amongst the lush botanical gardens, beside a saltwater pool and three more ultra-private houses, which each have their own pools. Meandering paths lead to a spa, rasul steam tower and the Stables & Paddock lounge, where meals are served with giraffes looking on. The thatched guest houses have contemporary interiors with beautiful views, stone bathrooms, huge beds with billowing mosquito nets and outdoor day beds – perfect for a night under the stars. For the adventurous, the Bird’s Nest, elevated over the resort, is an overnight experience with candle-lit dinner and picnic breakfast. There are daily game rides, bush walks, riverside picnics, hippo spotting, fishing, cattle dipping on the Segera Ranch and outdoor movie nights.
Segera has responsible tourism at its core:
- resort is entirely solar powered with rainwater harvesting and waste composting throughout
- in-house bottling plant
- organic garden
- local communities integral to guest stays
- all-female ranger unit
- SATUBO beading project
- school building initiative has already built 6 schools
