This elegant cruise line combines a strong nautical heritage with 21st century design and first-class service. In December 2018 the latest Pinnacle-class ship, Nieuw Statendam, is due to embark upon its inaugural voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Key West and Half Moon Cay, Holland America’s private island in the Bahamas.

The 2,650 passenger ship, which is sister to the hugely popular Koningsdam, will feature many of the same features; French-style brasserie Sel de Mer, Culinary Arts Center, Blend wine-making venue, two-tiered Lido Pool with movie screen, and the stunning Music Walk which takes guests on a journey through Billboard Onboard, Lincoln Center Stage and B.B. King’s Blues Club.

Interiors, created by infamous hospitality designer Adam D. Tihany and legendary ship architect Bjorn Storbraaten, will be broadly similar but there are a few surprises planned. A central atrium, spanning three decks, is rumoured to project changing images like cotton-wool clouds by day and star-filled skies by night.

Well-designed staterooms come equipped with bedside USB ports, frameless shower doors, high-quality wooden furniture and first-rate linens. Family Ocean-view Staterooms accommodate up to five people, and there are specially designed single staterooms exclusively for solo travellers.
